I must say, when Frozen first came out I wasn’t immediately a fan. Although I liked the story of two sisters coming together and realizing that their love for each other was the key all along, there were parts of the movie that really bothered me. As time went on, my feelings for the film softened a bit, and when I saw the broadway play, I loved it. To celebrate Frozen, and the fact that most of the country is currently being covered in snow, I’m excited to share these frozen fractals inspired by a very special ice queen!

Made out of white chocolate, these fractals are flavored with a bit of peppermint. To mirror Elsa’s sparkling ice dress, I added blue swirls to the white base using blue candy melts, and added a bit of sparkle with silver, white, and blue sprinkles.

Overall, these frozen fractals are easy to make. However, white chocolate can be a bit temperamental, so I recommend using a double boiler to melt the chocolate so you can keep a close eye on it. Once the white chocolate is melted, go ahead and melt the candy melts. I melted mine in the microwave, stirring them every 30 seconds, but you can also use the double boiler.

Once the chocolate and candy melts are melted, stir in the flavoring. I decided to use peppermint oil since it felt like a traditional winter flavor, but you can use any oil based flavoring you would like, or you can leave it as plain white chocolate. Do be a bit careful with the amount of oil you add as the flavor can be very strong.

To make the fractals, first spread out the melted white chocolate on a parchment paper covered sheet pan. Then drop spoonfuls of the blue candy melts around the white chocolate and draw swirls through them using a knife or flat icing spatula. When you have the desired swirl effect, quickly add the sprinkles and let set. When the chocolate has hardened, use a knife or your hands to break the chocolate into jagged pieces.

Once broken into pieces, enjoy!
