I love chocolate. It’s definitely my favorite dessert because it can be used in so many different ways and it tastes delicious! I’ve always wanted to try making my own chocolate candies and when I got this adorable Disney ice cube tray on sale at the Disney Store, I knew it would be perfect. I love the different shapes in this mold– it’s a great mix of theme park and character items and the silicone makes molding and removing super easy.

To make my candies, I decided to use light cocoa and red Wilton candy melts. Candy melts are designed to be easily melted and are a great low-cost option for candy making. You can also use any kind of chocolate broken into pieces, but you’ll need to make sure it is tempered correctly to get a nice shine. Since I don’t have all of the tools to properly temper chocolate for candy making, I found the candy melts to be a great alternative.

I decided to use light cocoa candy melts as my base and then add a little bit of orange extract to give the candies a nice orange flavor. Since most liquids will make chocolate and candy melts freeze up, make sure any flavoring you use is oil-based. To add some color, I melted some red candy melts to use as a drizzle and also made a few red colored candies as well. If you don’t have any colored candy melts, you can also use an oil-based food coloring to dye white chocolate or white candy melts red or any color you’d like.

I hope you enjoy these candies as much as I did!
