Happy Friday! With Thanksgiving over, it finally feels like the beginning of the Christmas season. I had dreams of getting out the holiday decorations, making some Christmas cookies, and snuggling up on the couch with some cocoa and Christmas movies. But this week had other plans and the only thing I’ve actually done after this hectic week is have a nice cup of cocoa. So, I’m excited to share this super easy recipe for Mickey’s Peppermint Cocoa. Hopefully it’ll bring a bit of Christmas spirit to your week too!

Last year, my dad got me a milk frother for Christmas. It’s perfect for making my favorite chai lattes, but it’s also amazing at making hot cocoa. And after a wild week I couldn’t wait relax with a warm cup cocoa. One of my favorite things about cocoa is that it can be as simple or as complicated as you’d like. I’ve had amazing cocoa that’s made by melting chocolate bars and I also love Swiss Miss packets.

Mug with Mickey and Minnie Mouse filled with peppermint hot cocoa and marshmallows

For this cocoa, you can do either. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could melt down some chocolate chips, mix together some cocoa powder with sugar, or just open a pack of your favorite store bought cocoa mix. For my cocoa, I actually used a sweet ground chocolate and cocoa mix from King Arthur Baking. It had a great chocolate taste and blended perfectly with the peppermint syrup. For my cocoa I used Monin’s Peppermint Syrup.

To make the cocoa, first place 8 ounces of milk into the pitcher of a milk frother or small saucepan. If you’re using a milk frother on the hot chocolate setting, follow the instructions for your frother. Add a packet or 1/4 cup of hot cocoa mix and a tablespoon of peppermint syrup when directed. Once the cocoa is ready, pour it into a mug and top with marshmallows, whipped cream, candy canes, or chocolate shavings.

If you’re using a saucepan, heat the milk until it’s steaming, but just under a boil. Stir in a packet or 1/4 cup of hot cocoa mix and a tablespoon of peppermint syrup. Once fully combined, remove from the heat and pour into a mug. Top with marshmallows, whipped cream, candy canes, or chocolate shavings.
