It’s A Goofy Movie’s 30th Anniversary! I can’t believe A Goofy Movie is turning 30 and to celebrate, I’m sharing these Max Cupcakes! Max is such a great character and these cupcakes are inspired by him. These Max Cupcakes are rich chocolate cupcakes topped with colorful buttercream frosting and fondant ears!

I’ve had such a fun time meeting Max at Disney World, on the Disney Cruise Line, and at Aulani. Every time I’ve interacted with him, I’ve had such a great time. I really love that he’s become more prominent across the Parks. I’ve also really loved all of the special events he’s been a part of such as dressing up as Powerline at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!

Max Cupcakes (chocolate cupcakes with blue and red buttercream with fondant ears)

These cupcakes are inspired by the Goofy Cupcakes I made for Goofy’s 90th Birthday! I generally prefer chocolate to vanilla, so I made these as chocolate cupcakes using my favorite chocolate cupcake recipe. They’d be great as vanilla cupcakes too, though!

To make the cupcakes, combine the sugar, flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. Add the egg, milk, oil, and vanilla extract and beat on medium speed until fully combined, about 2 minutes. Stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin and runny, don’t worry!

Pour the batter into a muffin pan lined with cupcake wrappers. For these, I used my favorite parchment paper cupcake wrappers but you could use any that you like. Bake the cupcakes at 350 F for 15 minutes or until a cupcake inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool the cupcakes in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cupcakes are cooling, prepare the frosting and fondant ears. To make the fondant ears, cut 24 1/2 inch pieces of black fondant. Roll each piece into log to make a Goofy ear. Set the fondant pieces aside until you’re ready to decorate the cupcakes.

To make the frosting, beat the butter in a medium bowl until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, and beat until combined. Then, beat the frosting on high speed until light and fluffy.

Separate the frosting into three bowls. Add a few drops of blue gel food color to one of the bowls, a few drops of red gel food coloring to a second bowl, and a few drops of black gel food coloring to the last bowl. Stir each bowl of frosting until the color is completely distributed.

Transfer the blue frosting to a piping bag fitted with a large star piping tip, the orange frosting to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip, and the green frosting to a piping bag fitted with a small petal piping tip.

To assemble the cupcakes, first pipe a swirl of blue frosting onto the top of each cupcake. Then, pipe a swirl of red frosting on top of the blue frosting. Finally, pipe lines of black frosting on top of the red frosting to make Max’s hair. Gently press two fondant ears into the frosting on each side of the cupcake to make Max’s ears.

Enjoy these Max Cupcakes! Happy 30th Anniversary A Goofy Movie!
