Happy April Fool’s Day! With everything going on in the world right now, it sometimes feels hard to be silly and upbeat, but I do think it’s important to take a moment and do something that makes you feel happy. Since April Fool’s Day is all about tricks and jokes, I’m taking to a moment today to watch some cartoons with my favorite jokesters, Chip & Dale. Of course, snacks are a necessary part of cartoon watching, so I’m excited to share these copycat Disneyland Paris Chip ‘n’ Dale Nutella Milkshakes!

I was very fortunate to be able to visit Disneyland Paris about 10 years ago. It was my first (and only) international Disney park and I would love to go back and see it one day. I loved seeing the castle and the mix of traditional Disney park and distinctly French culture. Awhile ago, I saw these adorable Chip ‘n’ Dale milkshakes from Disneyland Paris. Nutella is one of my favorite things. I love the combination of chocolate and hazelnut and was so excited to try it in a milkshake. These delicious Chip ‘n’ Dale Nutella milkshakes are topped with homemade whipped cream and a Chip ‘n’ Dale design made out of cocoa powder and fondant pieces.

The milkshakes themselves are easy to make as it’s just vanilla ice cream, Nutella, and milk blended together. The part that takes the most time is the Chip ‘n’ Dale decorations. In Disneyland Paris, the milkshakes have a cocoa powder chipmunk face pattern and what seem like custom candies to make up the rest of the faces.

At home, I used cocoa powder with a homemade stencil and then made the face decorations out of colored fondant. I used 4.4 oz packages of Satin Ice fondant in white, red, and black. You won’t need that much fondant, but it’s the smallest size I’ve found. I generally prefer to use Satin Ice or Wilton brand fondant as they are easy to roll out and shape. If you don’t want to get three different kinds of fondant, you can also use gel food coloring to dye white fondant.

Definitely start by making the fondant decorations and they will take longer than the milkshake. You can make the decorations in advance of when you want to serve the milkshakes, just store them in an airtight container!

To start, roll out a little bit of white fondant on a flat surface lightly dusted with powdered sugar. The sugar will help keep the fondant from sticking. Aim to have the fondant about 1/4 inch thick. From the white fondant, you’ll need to cut four oval eyes, two snouts, two mouths, and four teeth. I drew the shapes first on a piece of paper and then used a knife to cut them out. The template is linked here, just make sure to adjust the size to fit your glass.

Out of the red fondant, you’ll need to cut two mouth pieces to fit inside the white mouth pieces. Then, you’ll need to roll a bit of it into a ball to make a nose for Dale. Out of the black fondant, you’ll need to make a nose for Chip and four pupils for the eyes. For the noses, you could also use jelly beans or another oval shaped candy. Once you’ve cut the pieces, assemble the eyes and mouth portions and set aside until you’re ready to decorate. Cut out the head stencil as well so it’s ready to go later.

The next step is to make the whipped cream. I decided to make my own whipped cream, but you can also use store bought whipped cream. Once that’s ready, go ahead and place the ice cream, Nutella, and milk into a blender. Blend until combined and then pour into glasses. Spread the whipped cream on top of the milkshake, making a smooth surface.

Place the head stencil on top of the whipped cream, and then sift cocoa powder on top to create the brown base layer of the Chip ‘n’ Dale faces. Gently place the fondant eyes, mouth, and snout on top of the cocoa powder head. For Chip, add the black nose and two teeth centered in the mouth. For Dale, add the red nose and two teeth at opposite ends of the mouth.

Enjoy!
