Happy Friday! Inside Out 2 releases today and I’m celebrating with this Mixed Emotions Milkshake! Inspired by our swirl of emotions, this strawberry cookies and cream milkshake is topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of core memories!
I was lucky to attend an advance screening of Inside Out 2 earlier this week and loved it! Like the first movie, Inside Out 2 focuses on experiencing our often complex emotions. With some new friends, our returning favorites manage the rush of emotional challenges that come with being a teenager. As someone who sometimes struggles with being overrun by complex emotions, I really appreciated how anxiety was depicted and how all of the emotions came together in the end. I definitely recommend seeing it!

For this week’s recipe, I knew I wanted to make something that reflected the array of emotions we feel. In order to do this, I first made a colorful cup using the colors of some of the emotions in the movie. To do this, I divided a can of vanilla frosting into five bowls. I then used red, yellow, blue, green, and purple gel food coloring to dye the frosting different colors. Using an offset spatula, I spread the dashes of the colored frosting onto the inside of a smooth sided cup. This created a colorful (and edible) pattern!
For the milkshake, I also wanted something that reflected a combination of emotions. So, this Mixed Emotions Milkshake is a swirl of strawberry and cookies and cream. I used some local ice cream from La Newyorkina and Van Leeuwen, but definitely use your favorites! There are a lot of great combinations so you could also do any of your favorites such as orange and vanilla, strawberry and orange, or chocolate and vanilla!
To make the swirled milkshake, I first made a small cookies and cream milkshake by blending together cookies and cream ice cream, mini Oreos, and milk. Once it was smooth, I transferred it to a large piping bag, Next, I made the strawberry milkshake by blending together strawberry ice cream and milk. Once it was smooth, I also transferred it to a large piping bag.
To serve the milkshake, use the piping bags to swirl the milkshakes into the colorful cup. Top with whipped cream and mini Trix cereal!
Enjoy this Mixed Emotions Milkshake and Inside Out 2!
