We’re getting closer to Halloween! This week ended up being busy and so I wanted to make something quick and fun that still had some Halloween spirit. Enter these adorable Minnie Mouse inspired milkshakes! Originally found at Schmoozies in Disneyland, these Minnie Mouse Witch Shakes are a creamy mint chocolate chip shake with purple whipped cream, an orange chocolate bow, and Oreo ears!
I love most ice cream desserts but milkshakes are my favorite as they are easy to make and always make me feel better when I’m feeling sad. I’ve really liked seeing all of the seasonal milkshakes at Schmoozies — they’re so fun and cute! It also doesn’t hurt that a lot of them are cookies and cream based, which is one of my favorite flavors.
Milkshakes are super quick and easy to make at home and this one is no exception. All you need is mint chocolate chip ice cream, milk, heavy cream, oreos, sprinkles, and some orange candy melts.
There are a few different components to these milkshakes. I recommend making the decorations first so that once the milkshake is blended, you can quickly decorate and enjoy it!
To start, I decorated the cups. I used clear cups with a smooth siding as it’s easier for the sprinkles to adhere. First, I spread a thin layer of white frosting along the outside of the cup. The frosting is just for decoration so I used a store bought can of vanilla frosting. The layer of frosting should cover about 1-2 inches of the cup from the top.
Once the cups are frosted, cover the frosting with orange sanding sugar. I did this over a large bowl so that the extra sugar was captured and could be reused. To add the dots, dab a little bit of frosting on green M&Ms and stick them on the cups. At this stage, I also combined a small amount of orange, purple, and green sanding sugar in a small bowl. This will go on top of the whipped cream at the end.
To make the orange bow, I used orange candy melts. First, I melted a small portion of orange candy melts in the microwave, stirring them every 30 seconds. I then piped them into an ice cube mold I got at Disney World. Tap out any air bubbles and place in the refrigerator to set, about 5-10 minutes. My mold only has the one bow shape, so to make more than one, I just repeated the process, re-heating the candy melts as needed.
The whipped cream witch hat is purple and so I made my own whipped cream as it’s easier to dye. To make the whipped cream, beat the heavy cream on high speed using cold beaters. When it reaches soft peaks, mix in a few drops of purple food coloring and continue beating until the cream holds stiff peaks and the color is fully incorporated. Transfer to a piping bag with a large star tip and place in the refrigerator until the milkshake is ready.
To make the milkshake, combine the mint chocolate chip ice cream and milk in a blender, and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into prepared glasses, top with whipped cream, Oreos, and orange bow. Sprinkle with colored sanding sugar and enjoy!
