Happy Friday! The Big Game is coming up and I’m getting ready with these Mickey Waffle Cristos! Inspired by the new Waffle Cristos at Disneyland, these golden Mickey shaped waffles are filled with turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese! Served with strawberry jam and maple syrup, they’re the perfect halftime snack!
Disneyland is know for the Monte Cristos and their new waffle version is a fun twist on the classic deep fried turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese sandwich! Served during breakfast time at Cafe Orleans, the Waffle Cristos have been a huge hit. With those for inspiration, I added a Mickey twist by swapping the regular waffles for a classic Mickey waffle!

To keep these as close to the Parks as possible, I used my Mickey Double Flip Waffle Maker from Select Brands. I love this waffle maker as it makes perfect waffles every time I use it. I originally bought my waffle maker from shopDisney, but it is currently available at the Select Brands website. They also have a version with Mickey and Minnie, which is adorable!
For the waffle batter, I used Golden Malted Waffle Mix, which is the waffle mix used at the Parks. While I typically make my own batter, it was fun to have the waffles exactly like the ones I eat at Disney. I used one cup of mix and made it as recommended on the package. From one cup of batter, I made about 12 Mickey shaped waffles.
Once the waffles are done, use a serrated knife to slice them mostly in half. I sliced about 3/4 of the way through so that the ears were still connected and could help the waffle sides hold together. Place one quarter of Swiss cheese on the bottom, then two quarters of turkey, two quarters of ham, and a final quarter of cheese.Place the stuffed waffles on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 250 F for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar and sides of strawberry jame and maple syrup.
If you’d like to add a small twist to these Mickey Waffle Cristos, you could make them what I’m calling a “Minnie Waffle Cristo” by adding half of an egg cooked over hard. Monte Cristos are a variation of the French Croque Monsieur sandwich and the corresponding Croque Madame sandwich. While they’re basically the same toasted ham and cheese sandwich, a Croque Madame is served with a fried egg. So, for a Minnie Waffle Cristo, just fry some eggs over hard and then slice them in half. Slip half of the egg into each sandwich and enjoy!
Enjoy these Mickey (and Minnie) Waffle Cristos and all the fun of the Big Game this weekend!

In a medium bowl or large measuring cup, whisk together the water and egg. Add the waffle mix and whisk until smooth. Stir in the melted butter.
-
Prepare the waffles according to your waffle maker’s instructions.
-
Preheat the oven to 250 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Use a serrated knife to slice the Mickey waffles ¾ of the way in half. Leave the ears connected to each other to help the waffles stay together once filled.
-
Place one slice of cheese on the bottom slice of the waffle. Then, place two quarters of turkey and 2 quarters of ham. Place a final quarter of cheese on top.
-
Place the filled waffles onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Option: If you would like to make these “Minnie Waffle Cristos,” place one half of an over-hard fried egg inside the sandwich after it comes out of the oven.
-
If desired, dust the sandwiches with powdered sugar.
-
Serve with sides of strawberry jam and maple syrup for dipping.
