Happy Friday! This week’s post is a little different as I’m celebrating my birthday this weekend! As it’s a milestone birthday, I decided to make one of my favorite cakes, a chocolate caramel devil’s food cake from Tartine, a bakery in San Francisco. Of course, I added a little bit of Disney flair as well!
My mom made this cake for one of my birthdays when I was younger and I loved the combination of dark chocolate devil’s food cake layered with homemade caramel and chocolate ganache. Between making the cake, caramel, ganache, and the cake crumbs, this cake does take a little bit of work. But it’s very much worth it, as the result is a deliciously rich chocolate cake. Perfect for special occasions!

The recipe for this cake is from Tartine, a rather well-known bakery in San Francisco, CA. I was able to visit it a few years ago and loved everything I ate there. They published a wonderful cookbook, which quickly became one of my favorites. The recipe for this cake (Devil’s Food Cake) and many other tasty cakes, pies, and breads can be found in their book!
For decorations, I used a birthday cake topper from Target and then made some Mickey shaped chocolate pieces using Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers. To make the shapes, I used a small Mickey Mouse biscuit cutter from ShopDisney. Once cut out, I gave them a golden shimmer using Wilton’s Gold Color Spray.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
