Mickey & Minnie’s Sweetheart Brownies

Ingredients

Brownies

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

Chocolate Frosting

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 ½ tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • heart shaped baking cups
  • off-set spatula

Decoration

  • regular and mini size red M&Ms

Instructions

Brownies

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 F. Place 4 free-standing baking cups on a baking sheet. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir until combined.
  3. Pour the butter into the sugar mixtures, mixing constantly. Add the vanilla extract and the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition.
  4. Add the flour and mix just until combined.
  5. Stir in the mini chocolate chips.
  6. Divide batter between the prepared baking cups. Smooth the tops of each cup before baking.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the brownie comes out clean.
  8. Transfer brownies to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  1. Place the cocoa powder in a medium bowl. Add the butter and stir to combine.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and milk and beat on low until combined.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Assembly

  1. Frost the cooled brownies using an offset spatula.
  2. Press regular and mini size M&Ms into the frosting to make a Mickey shaped pattern.
